Pastoral Care to Seniors Seminar
Pastors, chaplains and lay ministers are invited to Dock Woods Community’s annual “Pastoral Care to Seniors Seminar” on Thursday, April 26, 2007, from 8:00–11:45 a.m. in Dock Woods Community’s Fisher Auditorium. This year’s topic is: “Learning from the Wisdom of our Elders: Offering Pastoral Care With Dignity and Respect”.

The speaker is the Rev. Bill Arnold, Ph.D. He is Associate Pastor for Senior Adults at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church. Bill has held various teaching positions including Professor of Pastoral Counseling at Union Theological Seminary and is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. He is a Master Storyteller and has published three books.

Registration for Seminar on Pornography
Pastors and lay leaders planning to attend the seminar, “Pastors and Congregations Address Pornography Together” are urged to register by phone – 215-723-5513 x 110, email to office@mosaicmennonites.org or at www.mosaicmennonites.org. We expect Brenda Martin Hurst to be the primary resource person with others as respondents and worship leaders. The Thursday evening, March 29 session begins at 7:00 p.m. and the Friday morning session at 9:00 a.m. Both sessions will be held at the Souderton Mennonite Church Fellowship Hall. The Thursday evening session is open for lay leaders and other interested persons. Register by Friday, March 23 if possible. For questions call the Mennonite Conference Center.

Seminar on Pastors and Congregations Addressing Pornography Together

bmh694.jpgEDC and FMC ministry teams have invited Brenda Martin Hurst, a professor of practical theology at Eastern Mennonite Seminary, to lead us in addressing the issue of pornography. Brenda led a workshop at the Mennonite Church USA Assembly in 2005 and wrote an article for The Mennonite addressing pornogrpahy. Since then she has spoken with other groups of leaders on this theme and has agreed to be with us March 29 and 30, 2007, for teaching and to raise personal and pastoral awareness.

The seminar will be divided into two parts. Both sessions will be held in the Fellowship Hall at Souderton Mennonite Church. We invite, [EDC encourages], and [FMC expects] credentialed leaders to attend both events. There will be .5 of Continuing Education credit available through these seminars.

Schedule:

March 29, 2007 ~ 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Lay leaders are particularly invited to attend. This session will provide an overview of the topic and raise consciousness on the challenges pornography presents within congregational life.

  • A personal story of struggle with pornography

This session is designed for pastors, youth ministers, and chaplains.

    • Gender specific group interaction led by Brenda and Carl Yusavitz, Penn Foundation
    • Response and reflection on the next steps in growth and accountability led by: Warren Tyson, EDC Conference Minister and Ertell Whigham, FMC Director of Congregational Resourcing and Equipping

Congregations and Pastors Address Pornography Together
Plan to attend the seminar, Thursday evening, March 29, from 7 – 9 p.m. and Friday morning, March 30, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the issue of pornography. The Seminar will be held at the Souderton Mennonite Church Fellowship Hall. The Thursday evening session is open to both lay leaders and pastors for teaching on the issue by Brenda Martin Hurst. The Friday morning session is especially for pastors, chaplains, and other ministerial staff persons, with credentialed leaders expected at both sessions. Brochures will be distributed soon with more information and plans for registration. Or call 215-723-5513, ext. 110 to indicate you will be attending. Pastors, be sure to invite key lay leaders to come with you to the Thursday evening session.

Bible Survey and Anabaptist Hermeneutics
Who might you encourage to attend the course with Marion Bontrager (Hesston College) on Bible Survey and Anabaptist Hermeneutics? The course will be held at Conestoga Mennonite Church, Morgantown, PA, April 13-14, May 11-12, and June 8-9. The course can be taken for three hours undergraduate credit ($945) or audit ($150). To register, call 866-EMU-LANC or email Julie.siegfried@emu.edu. This is a basic Gateway Course that all new credentialed leaders are expected to have taken in college or seminary.

Funds to send congregational delegates to San Jose:
Pastors, please note that grants are available to send congregational delegates to the Mennonite Church USA Convention in San Jose, California in July.  Franconia Mennonite Conference leaders strongly encourage each congregation to send at least one delegate per congregation.  If costs might make it prohibitive for your congregation to be represented, please contact Conrad Martin (215-723-5513, ext. 142 or ccmartin@mosaicmennonites.org) by February 2, to inquire about financial assistance.

GPS 2012:  Pastors Initiatives over breakfast regarding Christ-Centered Mennonite Education, Tuesday, January 9, 8-10 a.m. at the Mennonite Conference Center in Souderton
 Come to brainstorm as part of the unfolding GPS 2012 (Globally Positioned Students), a plan of the three schools: Christopher Dock Mennonite High School, Penn View Christian School, and Quakertown Christian School along with both Eastern District and Franconia conferences.  This initiative reflects part of the presentation offered at Conference Assembly in November and intersects with Franconia Mennonite Conference’s mission of Equipping Leaders to Empower Others to Embrace God’s Mission.  This is part of the essential efforts of leadership transformation toward nurturing and making disciples of Jesus Christ from cradle to grave.  This time will be led by Christina Drouin, Executive Director of the Center for Strategic Planning from Boca Raton, FL. who has been leading the three schools, FMC, and EDC in this shared process.
